Movie Films in Snoqualmie Valley for Third Time in two Years, Star Hangs out at The Bindlestick

For the third time in two years, the Snoqualmie Valley is the backdrop for a Hollywood movie.

On Monday, July 28, 2014, crews for the new movie, Captain Fantastic, filmed at Smokey Joe’s Tavern and the Snoqualmie Depot in downtown Snoqualmie.

The film stars Viggo Mortensen, who’s starred in over 30 movies since 1985, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy. George MacKay, Annalise Basso and Frank Langella also star in Captain Fantastic.

Mortensen spent Monday afternoon hanging out inside The Bindlestick on Railroad Ave. Bindlestick owner, bindlestick Rachelle Armstrong said the coffee shop was really busy with film crew members and she really didn’t even know who Mortensen was at first – until regular Bindlestick patrons started to buzz and let her in on just who she was serving coffee. Armstrong said the actor was “super nice,” especially considering how busy the coffee house was.

Fall City residents also report that film crews were shooting scenes at the Fall City Roadhouse on Monday, with lots of film trailers set up nearby.

Last week Captain Fantastic was shooting in the Gold Bar and Sultan areas, according to the Monroe Monitor.

The drama is about a father of six (Mortensen) who has raised his children off the grid in the Pacific Northwest forests and after a decade has to assimilate back into society.

Captain Fantastic is written and directed by Matt Ross.
