Snoqualmie Named One of Washington’s Safest, Most Exciting Cities

The City of Snoqualmie recently made a couple of Washington State top ten lists.  While the lists weren’t compiled by a state agency, the data used to generate them does lend some credibility to the rankings – and who doesn’t like to see the Snoqualmie Valley being recognized as a great spot to call home?

#9 Safest City in Washington

In early February, Safewise, ranked Snoqualmie #9 on a list of Washington’s safest cities. The ranking was determined using a FBI crime report along with the 2013 Snoqualmie Police Services Survey, citing that 96% of residents feel safe or very safe living in Snoqualmie.

A few other local cities that ranked high on the list include Duvall and Sammamish. You can see the full list HERE.

#7 Most Exciting Place in Washington

Then on February 26, 2014, real estate brokerage, Movoto, ranked Snoqualmie one of Washington’s Most Exciting Places to Live.

HUH? Exciting?  Snoqualmie is quiet suburbia, where nothing ever seems to happen.  In this case, though, exciting refers to getting the heart pounding, bodies moving, people healthy and youthful.

Movoto compiled the list by starting with all cities, towns and census-designated place in Washington with more than 10,000 residents and then ranked each one across seven criteria.  In total, 85 out of the 110 were used because for some places, the needed data could not be found.

The seven criteria used to determine the Most Exciting Places in Washington were:

  • Nightlife per capita (bars, clubs, comedy, etc.)
  • Crime per 100,000 people
  • Live music venues per capita
  • Active life options per capita (parks, outdoor activities, etc.)
  • Fast Food restaurants per capita (the fewer the better)
  • Percentage of restaurants that are fast food (the lower the better)
  • Percentage of young residents ages 18 to 34 (the higher the better)

Snoqualmie was propelled onto the list because of some really high scores on three of the seven criteria : low fast-food restaurants, a high number of music venues and low crime.

It probably isn’t a shocker to anyone living in Snoqualmie that there are barely any fast food spots – Issaquah and North Bend cover that for Snoqualmie residents.  Snoqualmie took the top spot for fewest fast food restaurants and took the second spot for music venues per capita and crime per 100,000 people.  That’s what landed the small city onto the list.
