Serious injury collision closes eastbound I-90 in North Bend during evening commute

At 3:50PM, January 24, 2018, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported via social media that a serious injury collision involving a semi and a Jeep had all lanes of eastbound I-90 blocked between exit 31 and 32 in North Bend.

WSP stated the driver of severely damaged Jeep was taken to Harborview, but would survive. They estimated eastbound I-90 would reopen by 6PM. By 5:15PM one lane was open.

At 4PM a detour was set up via SR 202 at exit 31, taking drivers through downtown North Bend. Exit 27 and W. North Bend Way was also an alternate. Both options created very heavy traffic in the downtown area.

By 4:30PM WSDOT said the backup on eastbound I-90 was about one mile and the Snoqualmie Police Department reported the detour was snarling traffic on North Bend streets.

As of 4:50PM a driver reported via Twitter that the backup was approximately three miles long.
