North Bend Councilmember resigns; city seeks applicants to fill open position

The City of North Bend announced that at the June 5th City Council Meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Gothelf regretfully accepted the resignation of Councilmember Jeanne Pettersen effective July 1, 2018.  She will be moving out of the area.

According to the news release, “The Mayor Pro Tem and fellow Councilmembers commended Ms. Pettersen on the work she accomplished since her appointment to the Council in 2009 and thanked her for her exemplary service to the citizens of North Bend.”

The City of North Bend is now seeking applicants to fill the Pettersen’s vacated Council Position No. 6.

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, at least 18 years of age, registered voters and have lived within the City limits of North Bend for at least one year prior to the date of appointment. The successful applicant will also be required to file financial affairs statements with the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission.

Applicants must provide a completed City of North Bend Councilmember Application Form and a resume outlining applicable professional background and community experience. Applications are available HERE or by emailing the City Clerk at soppedal@northbendwa.gov.

Completed applications must be received by the City of North Bend by 4PM on Thursday, June 28, 2018.

The Council will interview all qualified applicants in open session at the July 10 th Special City Council Meeting. Following the interviews, the Council will recess into Executive Session to discuss applicant qualifications as authorized by RCW 42.30.110(1)(h).

The Council will then reconvene in open session to formally vote on the appointment. The successful applicant will be sworn in by the Mayor and take his/her place on the Council.

Applicants should be aware the appointee will serve until certification of the 2019 General Election in November, 2019. Anyone interested in seeking election to Position No. 6 beyond the appointment period will need to file with King County Elections in Spring of 2019.
