Mount Si Student Musicians chosen to perform with elite Honor Bands

Mount Si High School Bands announced some big news this past week:  two student musicians recently received a prestigious honor.

Mary Piekarczyk (clarinet) and Erik Thurston (tuba) auditioned and were selected to perform with Western International Band Conference (WIBC) Honor Bands this November in Seattle.

WIBC is a convention for directors and students. Founded in 1979, WIBC features four elite 165-member high school honor bands under 6 world-renowned guest conductors and a soloist.

MSHS Band Directors Matt Wenman and Bill Leather said, “We are very proud of Erik and Mary for this outstanding achievement. We look forward to seeing them represent Mount Si High School at this outstanding conference with some of the best performers and clinicians in the world!”

Thurston said he very happy to get the opportunity to play with other great musicians and represent both the Valley and Mount Si.  He added, “I’d like to thank the fantastic Snoqualmie Valley School District Music Program for all the support and help it’s given me over the year

Piekarczyk commented, “I am looking forward to the conference. I am extremely honored to have been picked for the WIBC honor band program and that I cannot wait to meet and work with some of the best clinicians and performers in the world!”

Congrats Erik and Mary!
