Mitchell Family Football Camp is back, benefits scholarship fund

The Mitchell Family Football Camp is back. Established to help fun their scholarship fund for student athletes, this camp is intended for boys and girls, entering grades K-8, with any level of experience, who want to learn more about football.

The camp will be held at Mount Si High School on Saturday, June 3rd at 4pm and 6pm. It costs $40, and proceeds benefit a scholarship fund the Mitchell Family started to help college athletes pay for tuition and textbooks. The attendees will also receive a t-shirt and wrist band.

All four Mitchell boys are graduates of Mount Si High School and moved onto college football careers – Taylor at Humboldt State, Josh at Oregon State, Nick at Southern Oregon University and Caleb at the University of Montana. Josh is even now the Mount Si Offensive Line Coach.

Taylor, the eldest Mitchell who now works for the University of Washington Football program in Recruiting/Player Personnel, said one of the difficulties he found as a student athlete was juggling academics and athletics while working multiple jobs on and off campus to support himself through school.

So to try to make it a little bit easier for someone else, Taylor and his fellow student-athlete brothers decided to establish a scholarship for a Mount Si college bound athletes. Taylor said even if the scholarship and only covers books, it could have a huge impact on a student-athlete’s college life.

The Mitchell brothers will be running the camp again, with the help of plenty of other MSHS alumni and former Division I and II players. They plan to offer some great coaching and role models for Snoqualmie Valley youth, while raising money to help student athletes lessen the financial burden of college.

Because of the camp and scholarship fund, the Mitchell Family was able to award four $500 scholarships at  Mount Si High School’s recent Senior Night. The scholarships were given to 2017 Mount Si graduates who will be pursuing college while playing a sport (including football, soccer, track and cheerleading) for their school next year.
