Melissa Johnson announces will run for school board, challenge one-term incumbent

It appears one incumbent SVSD school board member will not run unopposed this November as he did four years ago.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, Snoqualmie resident, Melissa Johnson, announced her candidacy for Snoqualmie Valley School Board Director District #1. The seat is currently held by Tavish MacLean who announced in April that he would seek a second term.

Via press release Ms. Johnson stated:

“Although we have made great strides with our schools over the last few years, we deserve a district that consistently inspires our students to reach higher goals. We have a great opportunity to increase student success by reinforcing a culture of encouragement, supporting our valued educators and working collaboratively with parents, students and schools – all while remaining fiscally responsible.”

Johnson is a 15-year resident of Snoqualmie and married with two sons. She holds a MBA and a Bachelor of Science, working for Weyerhaeuser for over 22 years in diverse roles ranging from scientist to leading cross-functional teams. She is now responsible for pricing, business development and business analysis.

Johnson also launched her website with her candidacy announcement:  www.johnsonforstudents.com
