Accident snarls eastbound traffic near I-90/SR 18 interchange; investigated as vehicular assault

On December 4, 2017 an accident near on eastbound I-90 just west of the SR 18 interchange had snarled the evening commute. The accident had traffic backed up to milepost 22 in Preston by 4:20PM.

All lanes were blocked initially, but by 5PM the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported via Twitter than the the left lane was getting by. The right three lanes, though, remained blocked as troopers investigated the apparent multi-car collision as a vehicular assault.

WSP stated one person was taken into custody at the scene and one driver was transported to the hospital by Eastside Fire and Rescue with head, chest and back injuries.

By 5:30PM WSP said troopers and WSDOT had reopened all lanes.
